Raleigh, North Carolina

Home base is North Raleigh.

Old South Masonry is based in North Raleigh, so working in Raleigh is as local as it gets.

The city is a mix of old and new, and the masonry changes from one neighborhood to the next.

Around Five Points and Hayes Barton, inside the Beltline, you see bungalows and brick ranches.

In close-in neighborhoods like Boylan Heights and Historic Oakwood, new work has to sit beside the brick already there.

That usually means a front walk, a set of steps, a chimney repair or a low wall that matches the house.

Farther out, North Raleigh homes tend to be newer, with room for a paver patio, an outdoor kitchen or a fire feature.

Downtown, the stone State Capitol is a good reminder of what a well-laid wall can do.

The ground we build on

Rolling ground, old and new homes.

Raleigh sits where the Piedmont meets the coastal plain, at the fall line.

Most of the city is gently rolling, with the land sloping east toward flatter ground.

On a rolling lot, water always has somewhere to go. We plan for that before we pick a stone or a paver.

A retaining wall gets drainage stone and weep holes behind it. A patio gets a graded, compacted base.

The median Raleigh home dates to the late 1990s, so newer neighborhoods sit beside the older ones inside the Beltline.

We read your ground and your house first, then build to suit both.

Questions

Raleigh questions.

Something else on your mind? Call (919) 625-3963 and ask.

Do you work in Raleigh?

Yes. Raleigh is home. We are based in North Raleigh and work across the city.

Call (919) 625-3963 for a free on-site estimate.

Can you match the brick on an older home?

Often, yes. We look at the brick, the mortar joint and the bond first.

Then we show you the closest match we can find.

Does a sloped Raleigh lot need a retaining wall?

Often it does, if you want flat ground. We look at the slope and where the water runs.

Then we plan the wall and its drainage.
